A total number of 35 pictograms identify the sports in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. The competition schedule included 28 Olympic sports, held at 35 venues.

These pictograms refer to the origin of the ancient Games and Greek culture, as their shape, colours, conception and image contain Greek elements. Each pictogram has the figure of an athlete in action and its simplicity reminds the cycladic shapes, with their unique human silhouettes.

All the functional pictograms were redesigned specifically for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
