MODERN OLYMPIC GAMES - 1992 Barcelona Olympiad
 
                       

The Games of the XXV Olympiad were held in Barcelona, opened officialy by King Juan Carlos I and every nation with a National Olympic Committee was represented. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania took part for the first time, West and former East Germany participated as one team and so did Bosnia-Hezegovina and Croatia along with Slovenia. Men's basketball was open to all professionals and the United States sent a "Dream Team" that included Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Larry Bird. Gymnast Vitaly Scherbo won six gold medals, including a record four in one day and Derartu Tulu, from Ethiopia, won the 10,000m run becoming

the first female black African Olympic champion. The Barcelona Oympic Games are considered one of the most successful in the Olympic History and a model for the future of the Olympic Spirit .
