The Telecommunications Company of Greece or OTE controls domestic and international communications in Greece. Most public telephones now accept cards for both international and domestic calls rather than coins. Purchase cards at OTE offices in 100 unit, 500 unit, and 1,000 unit capacities. Kiosks and newsstands also sell the smaller unit cards. OTE offices have call booths where you can make international calls and pay after you have finished your call.

The main OTE office in Athens is at 15 Stadiou Street, tel. 210 321-5899. The office is open Mon-Fri 7am-midnight, weekends and holidays 8am-mid- night. There is also an office at 85 Patission Street that is open 24 hours a day.
Most hotels of C class and above have direct dial international lines.

The international code for Greece is 30.
The area code for Athens is 210 followed by a 7 digit number
